Mai Kato - Graphic Designer, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics
I am who I am
Because no one else can be me, and I always keep that in my mind whenever I feel like I’m losing control.
My Story
I’ve come to terms with my freckles—they will always be a part of who I am. They once bothered me and made me feel different from everyone else. Now they are one of my most distinctive trademarks and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Before I left Japan, my mother told me to always be true to myself—so freckles and all, I have come to accept myself for who I am. I have always taken good care of my skin. I drink water, wear sunscreen and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I can’t live without my eyeliner because it makes my sleepy eyes POP. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Now, as a graphic designer, I’ve found something that I love but also find meaningful. It’s the best of all worlds.
Step 1: Moisturizer

Begin with Hydrating Eye Cream and Hydrating Face Cream to infuse skin with an immediate burst of freshness while also ensuring your concealer and foundation apply smoothly.

Step 2: Corrector & Concealer

Using a Concealer Brush, brighten under eye darkness and neutralize any discoloration with Peach Corrector for a wide-awake look; gently pat it with your fingers to blend it into skin.

Follow with Honey Creamy Concealer; apply it as close to the lashline as possible, focusing on the innermost corner of the eye; blend again with fingertips.

Step 3: Foundation

Use your fingers or a makeup sponge to spot-apply Warm Sand Skin Foundation SPF 15 on uneven areas of skin or where there is redness (usually around the nose and mouth).

For full, yet natural-looking coverage, use a Foundation Brush to apply and blend foundation.

Step 4: Powder

Ensure the staying power of your concealer and foundation with a light dusting of Pale Yellow Sheer Finish Pressed Powder.

Use an Eye Blender Brush or Mini Powder Puff to apply powder to the under eye area, and a Powder Brush to apply powder to the rest of the face.

Step 5: Bronzer & Blush

Bobbi played up Mai’s natural flush with Pale Pink Blush swept on the apples of cheeks and then blended upward to soften any hard edges.

Bobbi Tip: “For the most subtle glow, use Rose Highlighter Pen on the highest points of the cheek.”

Step 6: Lipstick & Liner

Lips were left natural using only SPF 15 Lip Balm to provide extra nourishment.

Step 7: Brows

Bobbi framed Mai’s beautiful eyes by defining her brows with Mahogany Eye Shadow applied with an Eye Definer Brush.

Step 8: Eye Shadow

Staying true to Mai’s simple yet stunning beauty, Bone Eye Shadow was applied with an Eye Sweep Brush.

Step 9: Eye Liner

Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner is a great way to create the illusion of thicker lashes.

Step 10: Mascara

Multiple coats of Black Extreme Party Mascara completed Mai’s look.
